Diana blinked several times.

The vaulted ceiling looming over her bled through the blurriness in her sight. It was cathedral-like, painted in gold and brilliant colors, along with starry patterns that covered the dome.

Droning murmurs drifted all around her.

She jerked upright and immediately palmed her head. Vertigo. Squinting from the pain, she took in her surroundings. Rows of cherry wood pews were laid out before her. People were strategically scattered about, praying or staring at the man in the loincloth pinned to the cross behind the pulpit.

“Oh God!”

“Yes, m’dear, God is here for you.” An old woman in a nun habit appeared. “He is here for us all.”

“What the hell?” Last she remembered, she was cooking breakfast, waiting on Slice to come home. Flashes of his angry face and booming voice emerged in her mind. Then, she felt him touching her, stroking her body ever so gently. An arousing tremor coasted through her. “How—how did I get here?”

Fiddling with the crucifix hanging from her neck, the woman presented a bashful smile. Her cheeks grew bright red. “An angel brought you here. He expressed your need for prayer.” She reached for her hand. “Come. Let’s pray.”

Diana snatched away and shot to her feet. “Who brought me here? Was it a black guy? Or—or an Asian guy with silver hair?”

Confusion crossed her face. “No, dear. You should have a seat.”

“Just tell me who, lady!”

“Calm down. The ambulance will be here soon.”

“Ambulance?” she shrieked, backing away from her. That meant the cops were on their way as well!

“The young man—he said you may have drugs in your system and that we should seek medical attention for you.” Splaying her arms, the woman approached her. “Don’t go, please. You have nothing to fear in God’s house. Let us help you.”

Diana bolted for the exit. She burst through the double doors, nearly running into someone. She put as much distance between her and the church as she could. The fact she didn’t know how she got there had her thoughts spinning like a tornado. She couldn’t remember anything that made sense. Only that a madman was after her. What if she imagined her time with Slice? What if Neko was on her trail? What if…?

Breathing heavily, she stopped running. She scanned the area.

Oh God, where am I?

She patted her hips down searchingly. No phone. No purse. No anything! For the first time since awakening, she looked down at herself. “What the shit?” She would’ve never paired this pleated skirt with this frilly silk blouse. More puzzling, the shoes were all wrong! With a gasp, she palmed her breasts.

Where the hell is my bra?

It became painfully obvious she hadn’t dressed herself.

She had to get away from here and find her way to her brother’s house. Couldn’t go back to Dawn’s place and definitely couldn’t go back to Slice’s house. If I was ever there to begin with. Only option she had left was her brother, Chris. He lived in Florida. They were estranged and hadn’t talked in years, but Dawn mentioned he was out of the country on business.
